Dr Nikolas Wanahita, MD, MHA, FACC, FSCAI

A native of Jakarta, Indonesia, Dr. Wanahita pursued his higher education in the United States, where he spent almost 20 years of his life. He graduated summa cum laude from Saint Louis University with a degree in Biological Sciences, before receiving a Master degree in Healthcare Administration, and went on to obtain his Doctorate of Medicine from Creighton University School of Medicine.

Dr. Wanahita did his post graduate Internal Medicine residency training at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, NY where subsequently he underwent fellowship (specialist training) in Preventive Cardiology and General (Clinical) Cardiology. He was elected as the Chief Fellow during his final year of fellowship.

Following this, Dr. Wanahita underwent Interventional Cardiology fellowship (subspecialty training) at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, where the first coronary angioplasty (ballooning) procedure was performed in the United States. At Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr. Wanahita was supervised and trained by Dr. Gary Roubin, a pioneer in the Interventional Cardiology field and the co-inventor of the first FDA-approved stent, and many other world-renowned interventional cardiologists.

Dr. Wanahita joined Dr. Klaus Peter Rentrop's Cardiology private practice after he completed his subspecialty training. Dr. Rentrop is another pioneer in the field of Interventional and Nuclear Cardiology.  Dr. Wanahita worked as an Interventional Cardiology Attending (Consultant) Physician at many prestigious hospitals and Cardiac Cath labs in New York City, including New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, Lenox Hill Hospital, New York University Langone Medical Center, and Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center.  He also served as faculty at Columbia University Medical Center and New York University School of Medicine. 

Dr. Wanahita is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, he is board certified in Nuclear Cardiology. He was elected Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI). Dr. Wanahita has published a number of scientific papers as the first author in various medical journals and presented many scientific abstracts at numerous International Cardiology Scientific meetings. He has served as peer-reviewer for various prestigious medical journals such as the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), Circulation, and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Dr. Wanahita has been regularly invited as faculty and speaker at many local and international cardiology/interventional cardiology conferences. 

Prior to moving to private practice, Dr. Wanahita was a Consultant at the Department of Medicine, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, and a Visiting Consultant at the Department of Cardiology, National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore. He was a member of Core Faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and an Associate Program Director for the Cardiology Senior Residency Program at the National University Hospital in Singapore. He also served as Clinical Senior Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine-NUS.  Dr. Wanahita continues to serve as Visiting Consultant both at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and National University Hospital (NUH) currently.
